The Story

Mavalli Tiffin Rooms’ history begins in the year 1920.

It starts not with the MTR restaurant we know about now but about the three Brahmin brothers from the southern part of Kanara, a province in Karnataka.

In pursuit of some brighter pastures, the three brothers left their dull village and eventually arrived in Bangalore.

The Brahmin Brothers are Parameshwara Maiya, Ganappayya Maiya, and Yagnanarayana Maiya.

Later in the year of 1924, Parameshwara Maiya opened a little restaurant.

After they were hired as cooks, they opened this modest restaurant since they were so committed and passionate about food.

It was located in Bengaluru on the Lalbagh Fort Road.

He gave this eatery the Brahmin Coffee Club moniker with his brother Ganappayya Maiya.

Yagnanarayana Maiya and Ganappayya Maiya ran the restaurant after Parameshwara Maiya passed away.

Yagnanarayana traveled to Europe in 1951 to learn more about restaurants’ operations.

After returning from Europe, he made a lot of improvements to the restaurant’s cleanliness, order, health and hygiene, and sanitization.

Customers were allowed to view the restaurant’s kitchen.

The eatery, which operated at the time, was then given the new name Mavalli Tiffin Rooms.

The restaurant was moved to its current location in Bengaluru’s Lalbagh Fort Road in 1960.

Mavalli Tiffin Rooms, often known as MTR, later became well-known.

Once Yagnanarayana Maiya passed away, his nephew Harishchandra Maiya ensured the legacy was carried on.

The MTR restaurant is currently being run by the third generation.
