Copy.ai

★★★

Has shifted from copywriting templates toward sales workflows. Capable, and you are paying for orchestration over models you can use directly.

BEST FOR
Sales and marketing teams wanting workflow-based copy generation

What it is

Copy.ai began as a template-driven AI copywriting tool and has repositioned toward what it calls go-to-market workflows: chained prompts that research prospects, draft outreach and produce campaign assets.

Underneath are the same commercial models available through ChatGPT or Claude, with a workflow layer and brand voice settings on top.

That is a legitimate product for a sales team and an expensive way for an individual to write copy.

What it does

Workflows chain multiple steps together: research a company, summarise its position, draft personalised outreach, produce follow-ups. Done manually in a chat tool, that is a lot of prompting.

Brand voice settings apply consistent tone across output, useful when several people generate copy for one brand.

Templates for the standard marketing formats remain, though they are no longer the focus.

Integrations with CRMs pull real contact data into the workflows, which is where the sales positioning makes sense.

Who it's for

01Sales teams doing personalised outreach at volume.
02Marketing teams needing consistent brand voice.
03Agencies producing campaign asset sets.
04Businesses wanting AI wired into their CRM.
05Teams who want workflows rather than a prompt box.

Features

Workflows
Multi-step chained processes for research and outreach.
Brand voice
Consistent tone across generated output.
CRM integrations
Pull real contact and company data in.
Templates
Standard marketing and sales formats.
Multi-model access
Several underlying models available.
Team features
Shared assets and admin controls.

Pros and cons

PROS
Workflows genuinely save prompting effort.
Brand voice helps multi-writer teams.
CRM integration enables real personalisation.
Free tier lets you judge output.
Multi-model access rather than one provider.
CONS
Expensive relative to using the models directly.
Output quality no better than ChatGPT or Claude.
Positioning has shifted, so documentation lags.
Overkill for individual copywriting.
Workflows need configuring before they save time.

Pricing

PLAN WHAT YOU GET WORTH IT FOR
Free Limited credits to test. Judging the output.
Starter Individual use with monthly credits. Solo marketers, though cheaper options exist.
Advanced Workflows, more credits, more seats. Teams. The tier that makes sense.
Enterprise Custom workflows and support. Larger sales organisations.

Priced by credits and seats, and considerably more than a general assistant subscription. Only worth it if the workflows are what you need.

MY RECOMMENDED PLAN

None for individuals: use ChatGPT or Claude. The Advanced tier for a sales team doing personalised outreach at volume, where the workflow orchestration earns its cost.

Alternatives

ChatGPT or Claude
Far cheaper for the same underlying capability.
Jasper
Similar workflow proposition, more marketing-focused.
Clay
Better for the data enrichment side of outreach.
A copywriter
Still better for the copy that matters.

My verdict

Copy.ai is now really a sales workflow tool with copywriting attached. For a team doing personalised outreach at volume with CRM data feeding in, the orchestration has genuine value and saves substantial prompting.

For an individual writing marketing copy, it is a premium wrapper on models you can use directly for a fraction of the price, and the output is no better.

Judge it on the workflows, not the copy. If you cannot describe a multi-step process you would automate, you do not need this.
