BEST FOR
Producing template-based video without filming anything

What it is

InVideo is a video creation tool built around templates and, more recently, AI generation from a text prompt or a script.

It is aimed at people who need video output and have nothing to film: stock footage assembled into a template with text overlays and music.

It is quick and it produces recognisably template-based video, which is the trade you are making.

What it does

Template-based editing where you replace the stock footage and text with your own, producing a competent social or promotional video in twenty minutes.

AI generation takes a prompt or a script and assembles stock footage, voiceover and captions into a finished video, which is genuinely fast and generic in exactly the way you would expect.

A large stock library is included, removing a separate subscription for anybody working this way.

Text-to-speech voiceovers in many languages, which is useful for explainer content and obvious to most viewers.

Who it's for

01Businesses needing video output with nothing to film.
02Marketers producing explainer or listicle video.
03Anyone making video ads from stock footage.
04People with no editing skills who need something today.
05Teams testing whether video works before investing in production.

Pros and cons

PROS
Very fast from nothing to finished video.
Large stock library included.
No editing skills required.
Multi-language voiceover.
Free tier lets you judge the output.
CONS
Output is recognisably template-based.
Text-to-speech voices are obviously synthetic.
Stock footage is widely used elsewhere.
Watermarks and limits on the free tier.
Not a substitute for filming your actual business.

Pricing

PLAN WHAT YOU GET WORTH IT FOR
Free Watermarked exports with limits. Testing.
Plus No watermark, more exports and stock. Occasional video.
Max Higher limits, more AI generation. Regular publishers.
Generative credits AI generation consumes credits. Budget for iteration.

Priced by tier with AI generation consuming credits. The free tier is watermarked, so judge quality rather than plan to use it.

MY RECOMMENDED PLAN

The Plus tier during a campaign where you need several videos and have nothing to film. Cancel between campaigns.

Alternatives

Filming on a phone
Free, and more persuasive than any stock assembly.
VEED
Better for editing real footage you have shot.
Descript
Better for spoken-word content.
Canva
Includes video templates if you already subscribe.

My verdict

InVideo does what it says: video output, quickly, with nothing to film. For an explainer or a listicle video where the content is the information rather than your business, that is a legitimate use.

The limitation is that stock-assembled video looks like stock-assembled video, and audiences discount it. In every test I have run, a phone video of the actual business outperforms a polished stock assembly.

Use it for the video that explains a process or a concept. Film the video that is about you, even badly.
