Alternatives
My verdict
Pictory does a narrow job usefully: taking written content you already have and producing a video version without filming anything. For a publisher wanting to test whether video versions of articles perform, that is a reasonable low-cost experiment.
The output is obviously automated. Synthetic narration over loosely matched stock footage is recognisable to most viewers, and it will not build the credibility that a video of you talking does.
The highlight extraction is the better half of the product. If you record webinars or podcasts, pulling social clips out of them is genuinely worth the subscription, and Descript does that too.
