BEST FOR
Agencies and freelancers needing rank tracking on a budget

What it is

SE Ranking is an SEO platform covering rank tracking, keyword research, site audit, competitor analysis, backlink monitoring and white-label client reporting.

Its position is value: it does most of what Semrush and Ahrefs do, less deeply, for substantially less money.

For a freelancer or small agency tracking client rankings and running audits, it is the most sensible spend in this category.

What it does

Rank tracking is its strongest feature: accurate, flexible, with local and device breakdowns and daily updates at a price the big platforms do not approach.

White-label reporting generates client-ready PDFs with your own branding, which for anybody billing for SEO removes a recurring hour of work.

Site audit and page-level checks cover the technical ground adequately, with clear prioritisation.

Keyword and backlink data are the weak points: usable for direction, less reliable than Semrush or Ahrefs for competitive judgement.

Who it's for

01Freelancers and small agencies tracking client rankings.
02Businesses wanting rank tracking without a platform subscription.
03Anyone who needs white-label client reports.
04Local businesses tracking local pack positions.
05People priced out of Semrush and Ahrefs.

Features

Rank tracking
Daily, local, device-specific, at a fair price.
White-label reporting
Branded client PDFs and dashboards.
Site audit
Technical crawl with clear prioritisation.
Keyword research
Volume and difficulty data, adequate for planning.
Competitor analysis
Visibility and keyword comparison.
Backlink monitoring
Track your profile and new or lost links.

Pros and cons

PROS
Excellent rank tracking for the money.
White-label reporting included at reasonable tiers.
Clear, uncluttered interface.
Local rank tracking handled well.
Free trial available.
CONS
Keyword data less reliable than the majors.
Backlink index considerably smaller.
Interface less polished than Ahrefs.
Fewer content tools.
Not a substitute for Semrush on competitive research.

Pricing

PLAN WHAT YOU GET WORTH IT FOR
Free trial Full access for a limited period. Testing it properly.
Essential Core tools, limited keywords and projects. Individual sites.
Pro More keywords, white-label reports, competitors. Freelancers and small agencies. The usual tier.
Business Higher limits, API, more users. Larger agencies.

Substantially cheaper than Semrush or Ahrefs, and cheaper again on annual billing. Check keyword limits against how many you actually track.

MY RECOMMENDED PLAN

The Pro tier, billed annually if you track client rankings every month. The white-label reporting alone justifies the difference from Essential.

Alternatives

Semrush
Better data and far more features, at three times the price.
Ahrefs
Better link data, no cheap tier.
Google Search Console
Free and authoritative for your own site's queries and positions.
Nightwatch or AccuRanker
Rank-tracking specialists if tracking is all you need.

My verdict

SE Ranking is the tool I recommend to freelancers who cannot justify Semrush. Rank tracking is accurate, the reports are client-ready, and the site audit finds the things that matter, all for a third of the price.

Where it falls short is competitive research. If you need to judge whether a keyword is winnable in a hard niche, or understand a competitor's link profile properly, the data is not deep enough and you will want Semrush or Ahrefs for that.

A reasonable arrangement: SE Ranking year-round for tracking and reporting, plus a month of Semrush when you need to plan properly. That combination costs less than Semrush alone.
