★★★

A reasonable starting point that you will outgrow within a year. Cheap, simple, and shallower than it looks.

BEST FOR
Beginners wanting keyword ideas without a platform subscription

What it is

Ubersuggest is a keyword research and site analysis tool aimed at people who find Semrush and Ahrefs too expensive or too complex.

It gives keyword volumes, difficulty scores, content ideas, basic backlink data and a site audit, in an interface designed to be understood on day one.

It is also sold with a lifetime option, which is unusual in this category and is the main reason people consider it.

What it does

Keyword research covers volume, a difficulty estimate, related terms and questions, which is enough to build a first content plan.

Content ideas shows pages ranking for a term with their estimated traffic and shares, useful for spotting formats that work.

Site audit runs a technical crawl with a prioritised list, adequate for catching obvious problems.

Its limits appear as soon as decisions get competitive. Volume and difficulty figures diverge from the major platforms often enough that I would not commit a quarter's content plan to them alone.

Who it's for

01Beginners building a first content plan.
02Small businesses wanting keyword ideas cheaply.
03Bloggers checking whether a topic has any search demand.
04Anyone who found Semrush overwhelming.
05People who want a one-off purchase rather than a subscription.

Pros and cons

PROS

Free daily searches are genuinely useful.
Covers the basics: keywords, audit, tracking.
Good starting point for a first content plan.
CONS
Data less reliable than the major platforms.
Limited depth for competitive research.
Backlink index is small.
Rank tracking is basic.
You will outgrow it if SEO becomes serious.

Pricing

PLAN WHAT YOU GET WORTH IT FOR
Free A few searches a day. Occasional checks.
Individual One site, higher limits. Beginners and small sites.
Business and Enterprise More sites and keywords. Compare against SE Ranking first.
Lifetime One-off payment for permanent access. The only version worth considering.

The lifetime option is the reason to buy it. Monthly pricing puts it too close to SE Ranking, which is a better tool.

MY RECOMMENDED PLAN

The free daily searches while you are learning, or the lifetime deal if you are certain you want a permanent cheap keyword tool. Skip the monthly subscription.

Alternatives

SE Ranking
Better tool for a modest monthly cost. The value pick.
Google Keyword Planner
Free, from the source, with broad volume ranges.
Google Search Console
Free and authoritative for what your own site already ranks for.
Semrush free tier
A few daily searches with better data than this.

My verdict

Ubersuggest is a fine first tool and a poor last one. For establishing whether anybody searches for your subject and building an initial list of forty article titles, it is cheap and quick enough to do the job.

The data reliability is the issue. Volume and difficulty numbers differ enough from the major platforms that I would not make a competitive decision on them, and difficulty scores in particular are optimistic.

If you are learning, use the free searches. If you are ready to spend money, spend it on SE Ranking or a month of Semrush instead of a subscription here.

Some links on this page are affiliate links. If you buy through one, I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you, and it never changes the price you pay. It also does not decide what appears on this page: I recommend tools with no affiliate programme just as readily, and leave off tools with generous ones when they do not deserve the space.
