Quick social video edits and captions in the browser

What it is

VEED is a browser-based video editor aimed at social content: automatic captions, trimming, resizing for different platforms, background removal and simple text overlays.

It does not attempt to be a full editing suite, and that focus is why it is quick to use for the jobs most small businesses actually have.

Automatic captions are the reason most people arrive, and they are good enough to publish with light correction.

What it does

Automatic subtitles with accurate transcription, styled and burned in, which matters because most social video is watched without sound.

Resizing between vertical, square and landscape with subject tracking, so one recording works across platforms.

Simple trimming, cutting and text overlays, done in a browser with no software installed.

Background removal and noise reduction handle the two problems with video filmed in an ordinary office.

Who it's for

01Small businesses producing social video.
02Anyone who needs captions on video quickly.
03Marketers resizing content across platforms.
04Teams without video editing skills.
05People who want to edit without installing anything.

Pros and cons

Resizing with subject tracking works well.
Cheap relative to editing suites.

CONS

Less capable than Descript for spoken content.
Not a tool you grow into.

Pricing

PLAN WHAT YOU GET WORTH IT FOR
Free Short exports with a watermark. Testing.
Lite No watermark, longer exports, more features. Occasional social video.
Pro Higher limits, brand kits, more storage. Regular publishers.
Business Team features and collaboration. Marketing teams.

Cheaper than most video tools, with export length limits by tier. Check the limits against your typical video length.

MY RECOMMENDED PLAN

The Lite tier for most small businesses producing short social video. Pro only if you publish weekly and need brand kits.

Alternatives

Descript
Better for spoken-word content and repurposing long recordings.
CapCut
Free, capable, and designed for social video.
DaVinci Resolve
Free and far more powerful, with a real learning curve.
Canva
Includes basic video editing if you already subscribe.

My verdict

VEED does the everyday video jobs quickly: captions on, resized for the platform, trimmed, published. For a small business posting short video, that covers most of what is needed and costs very little.

It is not a tool you grow into. If your video work becomes substantial, you will want Descript for spoken content or Resolve for produced video, and VEED will start feeling limiting.

Worth knowing that CapCut is free and does much of the same job. VEED's advantages are a cleaner interface and better caption styling, which for some people justifies the subscription.
