What Is a Blog Page? Where Posts Are Listed
DICTIONARY · WORDPRESS

What Is a Blog Page?

A blog page is a page displaying a site's posts.

In plain English

Nominated in the reading settings as the posts page. WordPress then lists posts on it automatically, and any content you added to that page is ignored.

This confuses people regularly: the page looks empty in the editor because the listing is generated by the template, not stored in the page.

What to know

Nominated in settings
As the posts page.
Content ignored
The template generates the listing.
Paginated
Older posts on subsequent pages.
Styled by the template
Not by page content.

Why it matters

A blog listing is a navigation page. Useful titles, dates, and an excerpt worth reading do more for it than any design change.

Common mistakes

×Adding content to the posts page and expecting it to show.
×No excerpt, so listings show truncated first paragraphs.
×Pagination that buries older content unreachably.
×No featured images, leaving gaps in the layout.

FAQs

Why is my blog page content not showing?

WordPress replaces it with the post listing. Content there is ignored.

How do I change the blog listing layout?

Edit the template, not the page.
