What Is Content Repurposing? One Idea, Several Formats
DICTIONARY · CONTENT

What Is Content Repurposing?

Content repurposing is turning existing content into different formats or assets.

In plain English

An article becomes a video script, a set of short clips, an email, a series of posts and a slide deck. The thinking was already done; only the format changes.

It is most efficient when planned in advance. Recording a video with the article and the clips already in mind produces all three; retrofitting them later takes longer than starting over.

What to know

Plan before producing
Decide the outputs before you record or write.
Format, not repetition
Each version suits its channel.
Reaches different people
Some read, some watch, some skim.
Extends the life
Redistributes an idea over months.

Why it matters

Repurposing is how small teams produce enough material to stay visible. One substantial piece of thinking can legitimately supply a month of output across channels.

Common mistakes

×Posting the same text on every platform unchanged.
×Repurposing weak content, which multiplies the weakness.
×Retrofitting formats instead of planning them.
×Never repurposing, so good work appears once.

FAQs

How many assets from one piece?

Five to ten is realistic from a substantial article or recorded session.

Is repurposing duplicate content?

Not when the format and framing change. Republishing identical text on other sites is a different question.
