What Is an Objection? The Thing Stopping the Sale
DICTIONARY · COPYWRITING

What Is an Objection?

An objection is a concern that prevents someone from moving forward with an offer.

In plain English

Price, timing, risk, whether it works for their specific situation, whether they can do it themselves. Every buyer has two or three, and unanswered ones stop the sale silently.

Naming an objection directly is more persuasive than avoiding it. Avoidance reads as evasion, and the reader still has the doubt.

What to know

Two or three per offer
Not dozens. The recurring ones matter.
Found in sales calls
The questions asked every week.
Answered directly
Not deflected or minimised.
Placed near the ask
Where the hesitation actually occurs.

Why it matters

Objection handling is the highest-return copywriting work most businesses skip. The objections are already known; nobody has written them down and answered them on the page.

Common mistakes

×Avoiding the price objection.
×Answering objections nobody raises.
×Dismissing rather than addressing a concern.
×No FAQ, so common doubts go unanswered.

FAQs

How do I find my real objections?

Ask whoever handles enquiries what people always ask before saying yes.

Should I raise objections myself?

Yes. Naming them builds more trust than leaving them unspoken.
