What Is Transactional Intent? Ready-to-Buy Queries Explained
DICTIONARY · SEO

What Is Transactional Intent?

Transactional intent is a search where the person is ready to act now: buy, book, download or contact.

In plain English

Price, buy, order, near me, book, discount and product names with a model number are all transactional. The decision is largely made; what remains is the mechanics.

The winning page is rarely the most persuasive one. It is the one that answers price, availability and how to proceed without making the visitor hunt.

What to know

Recognise it
Buy, price, book, order, near me, hire, specific product or plan names.
Answer the mechanics
Price, availability, delivery or lead time, and what happens after they click.
Remove friction
Fewer steps, fewer fields, no surprises later in the process.
Match the page
A product, pricing or booking page, not a guide.

Why it matters

Transactional queries are a smaller share of search but a much larger share of revenue, and they are the ones least affected by AI summaries. A summary can explain a concept; it cannot take the booking.

Common mistakes

×Sending transactional queries to a blog post.
×Hiding pricing behind a form and losing the visitor who wanted a number.
×Adding persuasion to a page that needed a button.
×Ignoring local variants when the purchase happens in person.

FAQs

Should every business chase transactional keywords first?

Usually yes. They are the shortest path to revenue and they tell you whether the rest is worth doing.

Why is my transactional page not ranking?

Often because it is a thin page competing with pages that answer more of the buying question, including price.
