My Tryst with FLUX School of Arts: Where Bangalore Learns to Dance, Breathe & Create

You know that one place in the city that everyone talks about. Not because it’s new or shiny, but because something about it feels different?

That’s exactly how I first heard about FLUX School of Arts in Indiranagar.

A friend casually mentioned, “It’s that artsy space where people hang upside down in hammocks one minute and do poetry the next.”

I wasn’t sure if she was describing an art school or a scene from a slightly chaotic dream.

Either way, she had my attention.

So, one fine (and caffeine-fueled) morning, I decided to see this mysterious place for myself.

I expected a fancy studio with mirrors, strict instructors, and maybe some incense sticks for effect.

What I found instead was… different. Delightfully different.

At FLUX, art isn’t just taught — it’s lived, breathed, and shared like oxygen.

Imagine a space where the walls seem to hum with creative energy, the air smells faintly of coffee and possibility, and people actually look alive.

Like they’ve replaced their daily “Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V” routine with something real.

Someone was dancing barefoot to instrumental music, another person was sketching quietly in a corner, and a third was doing something I can only describe as “interpretive stretching.”

I stood there for a minute thinking, “Ah, so this is what happens when art, yoga, and Bangalore traffic survivors collide.”

And that’s when it hit me. FLUX isn’t just another art studio.

It’s a full-blown ecosystem of creativity, where adults rediscover play, kids explore imagination, and everyone collectively tries to make life a little more poetic (and a lot less predictable).

Quick Information: FLUX School of Arts

Where creativity wears sneakers, and coffee fuels the choreography. Step in curious, step out inspired (and maybe slightly more flexible).

My First Visit: Where Curiosity Met Creativity

FLUX School of Arts, 12th Main, Indiranagar

(Source: thefluxproject.com)

Walking into FLUX School of Arts felt a bit like walking into a creative rebellion.

One that was perfectly at peace with itself.

The moment I stepped inside, I was greeted by a warm smile, the faint thump of music from a dance class, and a splash of colour that seemed to have escaped a painter’s palette and decided to live rent-free on the walls.

It wasn’t your typical “school” vibe.

There were no stiff chairs or whiteboards with motivational quotes.

Instead, I saw people moving, not in a mechanical way, but like they were expressing something words couldn’t quite capture.

A dancer swayed barefoot to some ethereal music.

A group was sitting in a circle on the floor, deep in what looked like a discussion that could easily have been about philosophy, theatre, or the meaning of life (I didn’t dare interrupt to ask).

And then there was me. Standing awkwardly at the entrance, trying to blend in while my curiosity did cartwheels inside my head.

I remember thinking, “Wait, is this what art school looks like now? Because this feels more like a movement than a classroom.”

Someone handed me a cup of coffee (yes, they have that too), and as I sipped it, I could feel my brain slowly untangling itself from the usual chaos of deadlines, honking horns, and endless WhatsApp groups.

It was the kind of place where you didn’t need to try to belong. You just did! 🙂

A Bit About FLUX: Where Change is the Only Constant

About FLUX School of Arts

(Source: thefluxproject.com)

If you had to describe FLUX in one word, it would probably be… fluid. (Fitting, right?)

The name itself is a nod to movement, not just in the physical sense, but in thought, perspective, and how we approach creativity.

Founded in 2019 by Sahiba Singh, FLUX isn’t your run-of-the-mill “art studio” that offers a few dance and theatre classes.

It’s a living, breathing ecosystem built on the belief that art isn’t something you do. It’s something you live.

Every corner of FLUX is designed to spark curiosity and conversation.

Whether it’s a contemporary dance session that pushes you out of your comfort zone, a theatre workshop that teaches you to shed your mask (literally and metaphorically), or an art therapy circle where you pour your feelings onto a canvas, FLUX is all about helping you discover your most authentic self.

What really stood out to me is how inclusive the space feels.

There’s no hierarchy here. No “teachers on a pedestal” or “students trying to impress.”

Everyone’s learning from everyone.

It’s the kind of environment where a professional dancer might end up taking cues from a first-time participant, and a quiet observer could suddenly find their voice in a spoken-word session.

The founder often says FLUX is “an experiment in change,” and honestly, that sums it up perfectly.

Nothing here is static.

The schedule evolves, the energy shifts, and the art that emerges is always new.

Just like the people who walk in through its doors.

The Classes: Not Your Run-of-the-Mill Workshops

Now, FLUX doesn’t do boring. Their lineup of classes reads like a buffet for the curious mind.

1. Contemporary Dance – The Body’s Own Language

Forget Bollywood thumkas for a minute. Contemporary dance here is about raw, honest movement. You’ll learn to express emotions you didn’t even know existed.

(Warning: you may also discover muscles you didn’t know existed.)

2. Bollywood Dance – Because Who Doesn’t Love a Bit of Drama?

Of course, if you’re more of a “Karan Johar in my veins” person, FLUX’s Bollywood dance classes will have you doing high-energy moves while smiling like you’re on a film set.

3. Theatre & Acting – Drama with Depth

Their acting sessions aren’t about over-the-top monologues. Instead, they dig deep into movement, emotion, and the beautiful chaos of human expression.

4. Aerial Yoga – Defying Gravity, One Hammock at a Time

If yoga ever felt too grounded, try hanging upside down in silk hammocks. Trust me, it’s both terrifying and liberating.

5. Creative Writing – For Those Who Think in Paragraphs

You’ll explore storytelling, structure, and the art of saying more with less. It’s introspection meets imagination. The kind of class where a blank page becomes your therapist.

6. Photography – Seeing Beyond the Frame

Here, photography isn’t just about apertures and ISO. It’s about perspective. You’ll learn to see stories in stillness.

And then there are Women’s Circles, Healing Workshops, Kids Clubs, and even Summer Camps. All designed to bring out your best creative self, no matter your age or art form.

The Vibe: A Living, Breathing Ecosystem

What sets FLUX apart is that it doesn’t just teach art. It embodies it.

The energy is contagious.

One day you might walk into a contemporary dance rehearsal, and the next day stumble into an open mic night, a sound healing session, or a flea market that smells like fresh paint and possibilities.

Everyone contributes, collaborates, and creates.

It’s less “school” and more “artistic playground.”

Think of it as the Hogwarts of creativity, minus the robes, but with equal magic.

Experiences at FLUX: Where Art Meets Life

Workshops and Performances at FLUX School of Arts

(Source: thefluxproject.com)

Workshops

From expressive arts and intuitive movement to theater and photography, workshops at FLUX are like creative power naps. Short, refreshing, and surprisingly transformative.

Performances

Every few months, students put up shows that blend dance, theater, and emotion. The in-house performances are intimate. 80 to 100 people, but the impact? Massive.

Retreats

Ah, the retreats. Imagine escaping Bangalore traffic for a few days to a mindful getaway filled with movement, art, and conversations that actually matter.

Collaborations & Socials

FLUX also hosts socials. Book readings, film screenings, stand-up comedy, open mics, and silent discos. Basically, if you’ve ever wanted to meet Bangalore’s most interesting humans, this is where they hang out.

Why I Think FLUX Deserves All the Hype

FLUX School of Arts

(Source: thefluxproject.com)

You know how some places are hyped up on Instagram. All filters, fairy lights, and no soul?

Well, FLUX is the complete opposite of that.

The hype here isn’t built on social media aesthetics, it’s built on genuine experiences, late-night jam sessions, heart-to-heart conversations, and that beautiful chaos that only true creativity can bring.

What struck me most is how effortlessly multidisciplinary FLUX is.

It’s not just a dance studio. Not just a theatre lab. Not just an art school.

It’s all of those things and a mindset.

One evening, you might find yourself learning movement therapy, and the next, you could be exploring acting techniques, attending a poetry night, or watching a contemporary performance that makes you question reality (in a good way).

It’s also one of the few places in Bangalore where art and mindfulness intersect.

Whether it’s a yoga class that turns into a movement meditation or a storytelling session that feels more like therapy, FLUX finds ways to make you slow down. In the best way possible.

And then there’s the community. My God, the community!

It’s like walking into a warm, artsy hug.

Everyone here seems genuinely happy to see you, even if you’ve never met them before.

There’s no competition, no pretense, just a shared passion for exploring, expressing, and evolving.

To put it simply, FLUX deserves all the hype because it is the hype, the good kind.

The kind that doesn’t shout for attention but quietly inspires you to create, move, feel, and just be.

My Final Thoughts: In Praise of Beautiful Chaos

Walking out of FLUX that evening, I felt oddly lighter. Like I’d left behind a few invisible weights I didn’t even realize I was carrying.

It wasn’t just a visit to an art school.

It was a reminder that creativity isn’t something reserved for the “talented.”

It’s a basic human instinct, one we often forget in the rush of everyday life.

FLUX reminded me that it’s okay to experiment, to look silly, to dance without rhythm, and to speak without perfect words.

It’s okay to just try. Because that’s what being human, and being in flux, is all about.

So, if you’ve ever felt the itch to create, move, or simply reconnect with yourself, do yourself a favor and drop by FLUX School of Arts.

Whether you end up joining a class or just soaking in the vibe, one thing’s for sure.

You won’t leave the same person who walked in.
